"NY Billing Company Suffers Ransomware Attack, 942K Impacted"

Practice Resources, LLC (PRL), a New York-based medical billing and practice management company, has begun notifying 942,138 people of a ransomware attack that affected 26 of its healthcare organization clients. According to a notice posted on the website of the California Attorney General's Office, PRL was the victim of a ransomware attack on April 12, 2022. PRL took immediate steps to secure its systems and enlisted the help of third-party experts. The attack could have resulted in the collection of information, including names, addresses, health plan numbers, dates of treatment, and medical record numbers. Healthcare organizations impacted by the ransomware attack at PRL include Achieve Physical Therapy, the Community Memorial Hospital, Syracuse Gastroenterological Associates, Syracuse Pediatrics, Tully Physical Therapy, and more. PRL offered credit monitoring services to those who were affected. The United Health Centers of the San Jaoquin Valley (UHC) also notified individuals of a 2021 ransomware attack one year after it occurred. The information compromised in the incident included names, Social Security numbers, and medical record numbers. In addition, the San Diego American Indian Health Center (SDAIHC) faced a data breach involving an undisclosed number of current and former individuals served by the health center. An additional investigation revealed that an unauthorized party had gained access to SDAIHC's network and obtained data such as names, Social Security numbers, driver's license numbers, addresses, tribal identification card numbers, health insurance information, medical information, and birth dates.
