"'Pulse Wave' DDoS Attacks Emerge As New Threat"
A new form of distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) attacks has been discovered by security vendor, Imperva. These DDoS attacks have been described as pulse wave attacks in which short bursts of malicious attack traffic are launched at multiple targets at the same time. A traditional DDoS attack directs a continuous stream of attack traffic to a single target. Pulse wave attacks have been discovered to rapidly switch targets between bursts of attack traffic, while simultaneously targeting a multitude of other victims with similar bursts of attack traffic. The speed at which DDoS traffic can be ramped up for pulse wave attacks has also been observed to be significantly faster. This article further discusses observations made about pulse wave attacks.
