"Quantum Ransomware Attack on Finance Company Impacts 657 Healthcare Organizations and Millions of Patients"

Professional Finance Company Inc. (PFC) disclosed that it was the victim of a ransomware attack in February, which impacted more than 600 healthcare organizations. PFC did not disclose the attackers, but cybersecurity researchers suspect the Quantum ransomware gang carried out the attack. In a data breach notification, the healthcare vendor stated that the attack compromised sensitive information for over one million patients. However, based on the individual healthcare organizations' estimates, the number of impacted individuals could exceed two million. According to Eye Care Leaders, at least 2.2 million clients were affected by the PFC ransomware attack and subsequent data breach. Similarly, Delaware's Bayhealth Medical Center confirmed that over 17,000 people associated with the facility had been affected. The ransomware attack exposed sensitive patient information such as first and last names, addresses, account receivable balances, and payment information. Some patients' dates of birth, social security numbers, health insurance information, and medical treatment information were also compromised. Other healthcare organizations impacted by the ransomware attack include Kernersville Eye Surgeons, Long Vision Center, Stokes Regional Eye Centers, Aloha Laser Vision, Center for Sight, and Mattax Neu Prater Eye Center. The Quantum ransomware gang is a sub-group of the Conti cybercrime gang, which recently shut down operations. Members of Conti have gradually joined other gangs such as AvosLocker, Bazarcall, BlackByte, BlackCat, Hello Kity, and Hive. This article continues to discuss the impact of the ransomware attack against PFC and the Quantum ransomware gang believed to have been behind the attack.
