“Rise in Insider Threats Drives Shift to Training, Data-Level Security”

Challenges faced by organizations in the prevention of data breaches continue to arise due to the growing amount of managed data as well as the increasing threats posed by insiders. According to recent cybersecurity reports and research, internal actors are contributing to data breaches more. The implementation of perimeter security is ineffective in protecting an enterprise’s network against actions performed by insiders, whether they be deliberate or inadvertent. In order to reduce the risk of insider threats, organizations must focus on the data itself, offering awareness training for employees, emphasizing the importance of cybersecurity to executives, and taking advantage of new opportunities for security anomaly detection. This article further discusses the rise in insider threats and four ways in which the risk of insider threats could be reduced by organizations.
