"Sandbox Blockchain Game Breached to Send Emails Linking to Malware"

The Sandbox blockchain game company warns its community that a security breach resulted in some players receiving malicious emails spoofing the game and attempting to infect them with malware. The Sandbox is a blockchain-based open-world multiplayer game with more than 350,000 active users, providing them with the ability to create, manage, and monetize interactive content such as virtual worlds, objects, and experiences. The game's metaverse offers many ways for players to earn money, such as through making pixel art NFTs that can be sold on the Sandbox NFT Marketplace or OpenSea, or by earning the game's native "SAND" tokens, which can be traded on Binance and Coinbase. According to the security incident notice released on February 26, an attacker compromised an employee account to gain access to company email addresses. The attacker then used this access to send emails to users that appeared to originate from The Sandbox and contained links to malware on a different site. According to the company, the intruder had no access to any other services or accounts and was confined to a single employee's computer. This article continues to discuss the security breach faced by the Sandbox blockchain game company.
