"Spawn of Demonbot Attacks IoT Devices"

A team of researchers at Juniper Threat Kabs discovered a new type of cyberattack that uses a variant of Mirai malware against 60001, a common port used by Internet of Things (IoT) devices. According to researchers, the attack is organized by a malicious actor under the alias "Priority." This attacker uses the Demonbot variant of Mirai in conjunction with another variant developed by Scarface to target port 60001. Other ports attacked by Priority include 5500, 5501, 5502, and 5050. Port 60001 is commonly used by Defeway cameras, which account for more than 90% of all cameras that use this port. These cameras have been discovered to be installed within networks without password protection. This article continues to discuss the researchers' findings surrounding recent Demonbot attacks against IoT devices.
