"Students From Across the Globe Are Gearing up for the 11th Annual picoCTF Capture-The-Flag Competition"

CyLab's picoCTF seeks to close the cybersecurity workforce gap by introducing cybersecurity to the next generation through its annual online hacking competition. The competition, aimed at college, high school, and middle school students, provides a gamified environment for practicing and demonstrating cyber skills. Megan Kearns, picoCTF program director, emphasizes that the picoCTF hacking competition provides an environment for students to apply theoretical knowledge and demonstrate their developing skills. She adds that it encourages learning and practical application of cybersecurity insights. To expand its community outreach efforts, picoCTF and the National Security Agency (NSA) are also collaborating to offer the Second Annual picoCTF for GenCyber Teachers program. The camp, designed for high school teachers (grades 10 through 12) and district technology officers, will begin this summer. It will provide tips and resources for incorporating online capture-the-flag problems and competitions into the classroom, with the goal of increasing interest in cybersecurity careers. This article continues to discuss CyLab’s picoCTF and other efforts to close the cybersecurity talent gap.
