"Study Shows 91% Of Organizations Fear Ransomware Attacks"

Financially motivated cyberattacks are the most concerning to IT professionals, with recent statistics indicating that nine out of ten organizations fear financially motivated attacks such as ransomware. SonicWall research, conducted in conjunction with Cybersecurity Awareness Month in October, discovered that 66 percent of customers are more concerned about cyberattacks in 2022. Companies are losing millions of dollars due to constantly evolving malware and ransomware attacks. In addition, cyberattacks on critical infrastructure are affecting real-world services. Despite the growing concern about cyberattacks, organizations are struggling to keep up with the fast-changing threat landscape as they prepare their businesses, networks, data, and employees to withstand constant cyberattacks. Ransomware has raised the most concern as it was cited by 91 percent as a top concern. The top three concerns were phishing, spear-phishing, and encrypted malware. There is also a suggestion that organizations are taking too long to address security issues. The report found that 78 percent of organizations do not patch critical vulnerabilities within 24 hours of patch availability. Another 12 percent only apply critical patches when time allows. According to the report, the ongoing skills crisis is also having an effect on cybersecurity, as 46 percent of organizations lack sufficient IT headcount, while only 3 percent believe they have more than enough to handle day-to-day security operations. This article continues to discuss key findings from the 2022 SonicWall Threat Mindset Survey.
