"Surfing Attack Hacks Siri, Google with Ultrasonic Waves"

Previous studies have proven that ultrasonic waves can be used to deliver a single command to a cellphone through the air.  New research by researchers at Washington University has expanded the scope of vulnerability that ultrasonic waves pose to cellphone security. The researchers found that that ultrasonic waves can propagate through many solid surfaces to activate the voice recognition system of cellphones.  If the adversary has some cheap hardware when conducting this attack, then the adversary initiating the attack can also hear the phone’s response.  Researchers were able to activate Siri and Google Assitant with the ultrasonic waves.  The researchers were able to have the cellphones make calls, take images, and read the contents of a text.
