"Twitter Nabs a Network of Chinese Accounts Demonizing Pro-Democracy Protests, Spinning Coronavirus News"

Twitter has recently removed 23,750 accounts linked to Chinese-backed propaganda campaigns. They also discovered 150,000 other accounts sought to amplify the content on the accounts that were taken down. Much of the activity on Twitter was aimed at spreading fake news about the pro-democracy protests in Hong Kong, and the coronavirus pandemic.  According to researchers at the Australian Strategic Policy Institute, the overwhelming majority of accounts (78.5%) had zero followers, while 95% had less than eight followers.   The networks relied on vast amounts of bot traffic, as 156 tweets from accounts with zero followers received more than 50 ikes.
