"UK Data Protection Bill Tweaked to Protect Security Researchers"

The UK government has made changes to its Data Protection Bill in order to protect security researchers who work to determine whether anonymized data sets such as medical records and other personal data are adequately anonymous. The amendments are in support of effectiveness testing by researchers as long as they follow certain conditions in relation to intent and reporting.
