"US and Switzerland Enter Quantum Partnership"

The State Department announced a new international partnership aimed at developing new technologies in the field of quantum information sciences, with the help of researchers from both the US and Switzerland. Both countries' representatives signed a Joint Statement on Cooperation to promote innovation in quantum information science and technology. This is one of the most recent international partnerships the US has entered with allies to advance the development of emerging technologies, following a data privacy framework between the US and the EU and a similar quantum partnership between the US and Australia. Quantum information technology, specifically quantum computing, has the potential to disrupt traditional computers and data networks. A viable quantum computer capable of hosting corresponding quantum algorithms has the potential to breach standard encryption and gain access to sensitive data on unprepared networks. The new US-Swiss collaboration will investigate QIST applications in quantum computing as well as related areas such as quantum networking and quantum sensing. This article continues to discuss the new US-Swiss partnership aimed at technological innovation in quantum information sciences to prepare for quantum computers that will break today's secure encryption algorithms.
