A new mobile adware program called LightsOut was discovered by Check Point researchers to be hidden in 22 fraudulent flashlight and utility applications that were available for download in the Google Play Store. LightsOut unleashed a barrage of pop-up ads on users. These pop-up ads secretly generated ad revenue for the developers behind the malware. Users were forced to click on such ads in order to continue performing activities on their device.
