"What Is Shadow Mining and Why Is It a Security Threat?"

The results of a survey recently conducted by Exabeam to which 150 cybersecurity professionals responded, indicate that most organizations lack awareness surrounding the threat of shadow mining and cryptojacking. The performance of shadow mining refers to the illicit use of an organization's computing resources by a malicious insider to mine cryptocurrencies. Shadow mining is a form of shadow IT in which an organization's IT infrastructure is utilized by an employee in a secretive or unauthorized manner. According to the results of the survey, 65 percent of organizations are not familiar with shadow mining.
