"Zero Trust Adoption Reaches Record-High in Healthcare"

Okta discovered in its latest report on the state of zero trust security that zero trust adoption is gaining significant traction in the healthcare sector this year. According to Okta's 2021 report, only 37 percent of surveyed healthcare organizations had begun implementing zero trust initiatives. This year's report reveals a 21 percent increase in healthcare organizations already implementing zero trust initiatives. Furthermore, 96 percent of healthcare respondents said they have already implemented or plan to implement a zero trust initiative in the next 12 to 18 months, up from 91 percent last year. Zero trust is based on the idea that no device or user is automatically trusted before being subjected to a series of strict authentication processes. Zero trust consists of a collection of cyber defenses that examine threats both inside and outside of a network's perimeter, rather than a single technology or strategy. The volatility of the current cyber threat landscape is one of the potential reasons for this increase in adoption. In order to adequately counter cyber threats, the healthcare sector has had to adapt and embrace innovative methods of securing its systems. Organizations are undertaking zero trust projects such as cloud transformation, implementing multi-factor authentication (MFA), securing vulnerable access points, and leveraging and integrating Identity and Access Management (IAM) platforms with other critical security solutions. This article continues to discuss key findings from Okta's State of Zero Trust Security 2022 report.
