Generative AI for Specifications

Day 1: Introduction & Ideation (12:45 PM – 3:15 PM)

12:45 – 2:15 PM

  • Revisit Track Intro
  • Introduction of participants (3 minutes per person):
    • Name
    • Affiliation
    • Choose one and only one:
      • Most promising opportunity in using generative AI for specifications.
      • Biggest impediment/challenge in using generative AI for specifications.
2:15 – 3:00 PM
  • Sticky Note Exercise:
    • Answer one or both prompts:
      1. “If you had 100 great researchers, describe a research question that you would pursue on the use of generative AI for specifications.”
      2. “From your experience looking at different application domains, you see one particular domain/sub-domain to be the best target for using generative AI to formulate specifications.”
    • Moderated Brainstorming:
      1. Grouping sticky notes into 3-4 categories
      2. Participants select a group to join
3:00 – 3:15 PM
  • Introduction to Heilmeier Questions:
    • Explanation of the final deliverable
    • Focus on H1 (What are you trying to do?) and H3 (What’s new in your approach? And why do you think it will be successful?)

Day 2: Discussion & Refinement

Morning Session (9:50 AM – 11:50 AM)
9:50 – 10:30 AM
  • Full Track Session:
    • In-track invited talk

10:30 – 11:50 AM

  • Full Track Session:
    • Describe the 3-4 topics and group assignments
    • Lay down rules of engagement
10:50 – 11:50 AM
  • Breakout Groups:
    • Discussion focused on H1 and H3
    • Refinement of initial ideas
Afternoon Session (1:15 PM – 3:45 PM)
1:15 – 2:00 PM
  • Track Session:
    • Scribes report on H1 and H3 from each group
    • Reflection on threads, identify synergies
    • Consider merging topics or redefining problems to avoid overlap

2:00 – 3:00 PM

  • Breakout Groups:
    • Continue discussions, refine H1 and H3
    • Address H2 (How is it done today, and what are the limits of current practice?), H4 (Who cares? What difference will it make?), and possibly H5 (How long will it take? What are midterm and final exams?)
3:00 – 3:45 PM
  • Track Session:
    • Scribes report on H1-H4 and possibly H5 from each group

Day 3: Finalization & Presentation (9:40 AM – 11:40 AM)

9:40 – 10:30 AM

    • Refine slides based on feedback from previous sessions
    • Write final program concepts and 1-page summaries
10:30 – 11:40 AM
  • Final Presentations:
    • Groups present final concepts to track as "concept problems"
    • Discuss how these can be shared with others as challenge problems for C3E RFP
