International Research Network for the Science of Security (IRN-SoS) Workshop: What should be Included in a Methodologically-Defensible Science of Security Paper?
April 22, 8:30 a.m.
Lead by Laurie Williams, North Carolina State University and Jeff Carver, University of Alabama
This year’s workshop will focus on analyzing papers from the security literature to determine how completely authors describe their research methods. The goal of this workshop is two-fold:
- Increase participants awareness of the type of information they should expect in science of security papers; and
- Provide participants with a template to use when writing their own papers.
The session will be hosted in the context of the International Research Network for the Science of Security (IRN-SoS). IRN-SoS is a community of security researchers that will encourage and support each other to follow scientifically-defensible methodologies when conducting security research. The goal of IRN-SoS is to facilitate the sharing of knowledge and standardization of practice among its members. The annual IRN-SoS meeting (held during the HotSoS conference) is a venue to discuss topics regarding methodology, as well as an opportunity for members to present and receive feedback on current and future projects.
