WormGPT is a black-hat alternative to GPT models designed specifically for malicious activities. According to a report by SlashNext, WormGPT was trained on a variety of data sources, with a focus on malware-related data. It generates human-like text based on the input it receives and can produce highly convincing phishing emails. Screenshots from a cybercrime forum show exchanges between malicious actors discussing how to use ChatGPT to boost the success of BEC attacks, suggesting that hackers with limited fluency in the target language can use generative AI to create a convincing email. The research team also looked at the potential risks associated with WormGPT, focusing on BEC attacks, by instructing the tool to generate an email to drive an account manager into making payment for a fraudulent invoice.
