Dr. Paul Roysdon is the Leidos AI/ML Chief Scientist and both a Technical Fellow and Master-level Solution Architect. He presently provides technical leadership in the Leidos Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning (AI/ML) Accelerator and leads the Leidos Cyber AI research portfolio.

Prior to joining Leidos in the fall of 2020, Dr. Roysdon was a Technical Fellow assigned to the Office of the Director of National Intelligence (ODNI) as the senior-level AI/ML subject matter expert.  He co-led the execution of National Security Presidential Memorandum-18, an Intelligence Community (IC)-wide effort to employ AI/ML in every aspect of the IC.  He regularly briefed senior industry/ government/ military leadership, the Principal Deputy Director of National Intelligence, members of the United States Senate Select Committee on Intelligence, House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence, and the Senate Appropriations Committee. He also refereed the AI Ethics Framework for the IC.

During his several years in the IC and DoD, Dr. Roysdon applied ML solutions to IC problems in cyber and cryptanalysis. He also authored and taught: AI for Senior Leadership, AI for Senior Technical Leadership, and three Data Science Boot-Camps (basic, intermediate, and advanced levels). Prior to his government service, Dr. Roysdon spent 15 years in the aerospace industry applying ML and optimization to aircraft design, as well as guidance, navigation and Control (GNC).  He later owned and sold an aerospace engineering tech start-up company that specialized in autopilots, navigation systems, and camera/sensor stabilization systems.

Dr. Roysdon earned several degrees, including a dual B.S. and three M.S. degrees aeronautical, aerospace, electrical, and mechanical engineering, and a Ph.D. with a dual focus in applied mathematics and probability theory.  He is the author of five textbooks on ML and applied mathematics, several technical publications, and received numerous awards in both the IC and industry for pioneering work in AI/ML and GNC.
